Course Learning Objectives for MDS Essentials Training

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the purpose of components of the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) process.

  • Explain the role of the MDS (Minimum Data Set) in the daily clinical and operational practices within a long term care setting.

  • Apply basic coding principles and guidance when completing MDS assessments.

  • Identify key elements in developing and implementing individualized care plan.

  • Understand how MDS data impacts quality measures and facility performance indicators.

  • Recognize the use of MDS assessments and data in the state and federal survey process.

  • Summarize the concepts of the Patient-Driven Payment Model (PDPM) and how it relates to MDS.
